Eleanna

Biography

Eleanna Anagnos (she/her) (b.1980, Evanston, IL) is a Greek-American artist and curator. She investigates intersections and thresholds between painting, drawing and sculpture and shifts perceptual values through the manipulation of material hierarchies and processes.

Eleanna earned her MFA in Painting from the Tyler School of Art and a BA with honors and distinction from Kenyon College with a concentration in Women’s and Gender Studies. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has been featured in BOMB Magazine, Hyperallergic, Maake Magazine, Studio International, The New York Times , Artnet and Sheridan Road Magazine.

Eleanna has been honored as a Grant Wood Fellow, Rauschenberg Foundation Fellow, Yaddo Fellow, BAU Institute Fellow at the Camargo Foundation, an Anderson Ranch Fellow, Atlantic Center for the Arts Fellow, and received grants from The Joan Mitchell Foundation, The Mayer Foundation and Artists' Fellowship, Inc.



She has been a visiting critic and/or given lectures at a number of institutions including: NARS Foundation, Brooklyn College, University of Florida, University of Texas, Austin, Universidad Iberoamericana, The Cooper Union, Ball State University, University of Tennessee, The Stanley Museum at The University of Iowa, Columbia University,  Residency Unlimited, Wassaic Projects, Maharishi University, SUNY Purchase University, Georgia Southern University and Kenyon College. She has taught at Kenyon College in Rome, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Temple University and the University of Iowa.

For 8 years, between  2014 and 2022, Eleanna  was a Co-Director at Ortega y Gasset Projects, an artist-run, non-profit gallery located in Brooklyn, NY, supporting artists from marginalized and underrepresented communities. Her curatorial projects have been reviewed or featured in Art in America, The New York Times, Artnet, The Brooklyn Rail, and the New York Observer.  She continues to curate independently.
